Student Entrepreneur Project at Lunar New Year Fair

As a yearly tradition for the Department of Management, students are encouraged to run a stall at the Lunar New Year fair in Victoria Park, to practise their entrepreneurial and management skills.

This year, a group of 26 students, major in Human Resource Management and International Business, worked together in selling self-designed products themed ‘freeloader’. The group has chosen to address a recent social phenomenon that some young people are being perceived as ‘freeloaders’ in society – who take things for granted and not give back to society. Therefore, the team would like to tell the public that young people could also contribute to society when their potentials and talents were utilized.

The group has creatively produced items such as cushions, computer bags, folders and posters, with humorous and ironic drawings, to attract customers’ attention.

Ivan Chan Ka-hei, a student who participated in the project, said, “Doing business in real life is quite different from studying. From product sourcing, design, marketing and execution…these are just a few considerations that you need to take care of when doing business. Despite all the hardships, the project allowed me to practise business and managerial skills learned, and it was a truly valuable experience.”
